Masters of Science in Nursing with a Specialization in School Nursing
The Master of Science (M.S.) in Nursing with a Specialization in School Nursing is a dynamic, stepwise degree program that includes the Graduate School Nurse Certificate Program within the curriculum. Students can either directly apply or matriculate into the degree program while completing the Graduate School Nurse Certificate Program.
The M.S degree is designed to build on nursing baccalaureate education, contemporary nursing practice parameters, and disciplinary competencies. The program curriculum includes a total of 37 credits;16 credits are allocated to nursing core courses and 21 credits are allocated to the school nursing specialization. This program integrates content required by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) for the Standard Non-Instructional School Nurse Certificate and the Standard (Instructional) School Nurse Certificate with graduate-level nursing knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to thrive in schools and community settings.
The School Nurse Certificate program embedded in the M.S degree is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education in meeting requirements for the Standard Non-Instructional School Nurse Certificate (N.J.A.C. 6A:9B -14.4) and the Standard (Instructional) School Nurse Endorsement (N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-14.3). The Master of Science in Nursing Degree is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
Admission Requirements
*Program admission is on a rolling basis.
- BSN from an institution that is both regionally accredited & accredited by CCNE or ACEN Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Completed application and non-refundable fee
- Official transcripts from all previous U.S. colleges attended or official NACES course-by-course evaluation of any foreign transcripts*
- Submission of a 250-500-word essay
- Two (2) letters of recommendation
- Professional Resume or CV
- Copy of current, unencumbered NJ nursing license

Students who complete the Master of Science in Nursing with a Specialization in School Nursing at NJCU will be able to:
