Undergraduate Second Degree Policy
INTRODUCTION AND STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
This policy outlines university guidelines as they relate to an undergraduate second degree.
POLICY
At the February 6th Senate meeting the Academic Standards Committee of the University Senate (ASC) gave its recommendations for second degree policy due to the reduction of Minimum required graduation credits to 120 credits from 128 credits:
After reviewing the policies of the different colleges/universities, the committee found no consistent criteria in determining required number of credits for the second degree. Therefore, the committee recommends that for NJCU, the Second Degree Requirements be reduced, on a ratio basis approach (i.e. from 128:32=4; 120/4=30 for a NJCU first degree graduate and 128:36=3.56; 120/3.56=34 credit for a non-NJCU graduate). See below:
TYPE DATA RESULT
Minimum Graduate Requirement 32 (NJCU first degree graduate) = 4
Minimum Second Degree Requirement
RatioCurrent Policy 128 divide
Current Policy 128 divide 36 (non-NJCU degree graduate) = 3.56
Recommended Policy 120 divide 4 (NJCU first degree graduate) = 30
Recommended Policy 120 divide 3.56 (non-NJCU degree graduate) = 34
