Performance—Classical—Voice, B.M.

Completion of this major prepares one for a career as a vocal performer (solo or ensemble), voice teacher, or choral conductor.  Continued study may include a master’s degree vocal performance or choral conducting.

THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO THIS DEGREE TRACK ARE:

  • Audition is required to be admitted into the program.
  • A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 in music courses is required.
  • All applied instructions need to be taken with chamber music, large ensemble and music seminar.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Music Performance -Voice program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate comprehensive skills and knowledge of music theory, and music history.
  2. Demonstrate comprehensive skills and knowledge of musical performance.
  3. Research vocal repertory with respect to style, composer, and performance practice. 
  4. Translate foreign texts, transcribe them into International Phonetic Alphabet symbols (IPA). 
  5. Articulate foreign texts with clear and correct diction. 
  6. Articulate pedagogical skills necessary to function as private voice instructors, and have a thorough understanding of vocal anatomy, physiology, and hygiene.
